On April 1, 2018, a new FAA-supported project began on the analysis of human behaviors and strategies for risk reduction in high-fidelity virtual reality simulations of real airports.

The project focuses on how expert air traffic controllers visually scan complex tower environments and how those strategies can be translated into more effective training tools for novices.

This work became one of the lab’s core FAA project lines and helped expand its virtual reality and eye tracking research portfolio.
